Glimirid Tablet is used for:
- Lowering blood glucose in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (Type II diabetes) when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
- Combination therapy with metformin when monotherapy with Glimirid or metformin alone does not provide adequate blood sugar control.
- Combination therapy with insulin when oral hypoglycemic agents, diet, and exercise do not effectively control blood sugar levels.
Note: Combining Glimirid with insulin may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Always take this medication as prescribed by a registered physician.

✔️ Dosage & Administration:
Dosage depends on individual blood sugar levels. The lowest effective dose should be used. Blood and urine glucose levels should be monitored regularly to adjust the dosage.
Initial Dose & Titration:
- Start with 1 mg once daily.
- If necessary, increase gradually at 1-2 week intervals as follows:
1 mg → 2 mg → 3 mg → 4 mg → 6 mg.
Maintenance Dose:
- Most patients with well-controlled diabetes require 1-4 mg daily.
Dose Timing:
- Usually taken once daily before a substantial breakfast or the first main meal.
- Skipping meals after taking Glimirid may lead to hypoglycemia.
Secondary Dosage Adjustment:
- As diabetes control improves, insulin sensitivity increases, and the dose of Glimirid may need to be reduced to prevent hypoglycemia.
- Dose adjustments are needed with changes in weight, lifestyle, or other factors affecting blood sugar levels.
Switching from Other Oral Antidiabetics to Glimirid:
- Initial dose: 1 mg daily, regardless of previous medication dose.
- Gradual dose increase based on blood sugar levels.
- A gap between switching medications may be required to avoid hypoglycemia.
Take Glimirid tablets with sufficient liquid.
✔️ Side Effects:
- Common: Hypoglycemia, temporary vision disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, low blood pressure, skin reactions (urticaria).
✔️ Drug Interactions:
Medications that may increase the effect of Glimirid (leading to hypoglycemia):
- Insulin & other antidiabetics
- ACE inhibitors
- Sulfonamide antibiotics
- Fluconazole, fluoxetine
- Beta-blockers
- MAO inhibitors
- Salicylates (e.g., aspirin)
✔️ Medications that may reduce the effect of Glimirid (leading to high blood sugar):
- Corticosteroids
- Diuretics
- Thyroid hormones
- Phenothiazines
- Barbiturates
✔️ Glimirid must not be used in:
- Type 1 diabetes mellitus.
- Diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic coma.
- Patients allergic to sulfonylureas, sulfonamides, or Glimirid.
- Severe liver or kidney dysfunction.
✔️ Overdose Effects:
- Mild Hypoglycemia: Treat with oral glucose and adjust medication/meal intake.
- Severe Hypoglycemia (coma, seizures):
- Emergency hospitalization required.
- IV glucose (50%) should be administered immediately, followed by continuous IV glucose (10%) to maintain blood sugar levels above 100 mg/dL.
- Monitor for 24-48 hours, as hypoglycemia may recur.
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Not recommended during pregnancy; insulin should be used instead.
- Breastfeeding is contraindicated, as Glimirid can pass into breast milk and harm the infant.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings:
- Risk of hypoglycemia is higher in the first weeks of treatment.
- Hypoglycemia can be managed with glucose or sugar intake.
- Adjust dose if lifestyle, weight, or health conditions change.
