✔️ How does Formatide HFA 4.5/160 Inhaler work?

• Budesonide: A potent glucocorticoid with weak mineralocorticoid activity, it reduces inflammation by acting on various immune cells and mediators involved in asthma.
• Formoterol Fumarate Dihydrate: A long-acting β2-adrenergic agonist with a rapid onset. It works by relaxing bronchial smooth muscle and inhibiting mediator release from mast cells.

✔️ Dosage of Formatide HFA 4.5/160 Inhaler

• Inhaler for Asthma (Adults and Adolescents 12+ years): 1 puff twice daily or 2 puffs once daily. For some patients, 2 puffs twice daily may be necessary (160/4.5 mcg/inhalation). Additional puffs can be taken if symptoms persist, but no more than 6 puffs per session.
• Children: 1-2 puffs once or twice daily. No more than 4 puffs per session.
• Inhalation Capsule for Asthma:
  • Adults and Adolescents (12+ years): Maintenance dose is 100 & 200 Inhalation Capsules twice daily. An additional capsule may be taken as needed, with a maximum of 6 per session. A total of 8-12 capsules can be used daily for temporary relief.
  • Children (4+ years): Maintenance dose is 100 Inhalation capsules once daily. Additional capsules can be taken if needed, but no more than 4 per session, with a maximum of 8 per day.
• Inhalation Capsule for COPD (Adults 40+ years):
  • 200 Inhalation Capsules: 2 capsules twice daily, with a maximum of 4 capsules per day.
  • 400 Inhalation Capsules: 1 capsule twice daily, with a maximum of 2 capsules per day.

✔️ Administration: Formatide HFA 4.5/160 Inhaler

• Shake the inhaler before use, ensuring it works by releasing one puff into the air if unused for a week or more.
• Breathe out, place the inhaler in your mouth, and press down firmly while inhaling deeply. Hold your breath for 10 seconds.
• Wait 1 minute between puffs, repeating the process if more than one inhalation is prescribed.
• Clean the inhaler weekly by removing the canister and rinsing the plastic actuator and cap with warm water (do not wet the metal canister). Dry and reassemble.
  Use as directed by a registered physician.

✔️ Side Effects: Formatide HFA 4.5/160 Inhaler

• Formoterol: Common side effects include tremors, palpitations, and headaches. Rare effects may include cardiac arrhythmias, muscle cramps, and hypersensitivity reactions.
• Budesonide: Hoarseness, throat irritation, oral candidiasis, skin reactions, respiratory infections, and possible effects on growth in children. Prolonged use may lead to cataracts and glaucoma.

✔️ Overdose Effects: Formatide HFA 4.5/160 Inhaler

• Formoterol Overdose: Symptoms may include tremors, tachycardia, and headache. Severe overdose can lead to arrhythmia and other issues like hyperglycemia and hypokalemia.
• Budesonide Overdose: Chronic excessive doses may lead to systemic corticosteroid effects like hypercorticism and adrenal suppression.

✔️ Interactions:

Avoid co-administration with strong CYP450 3A4 inhibitors like ritonavir, which may increase corticosteroid effects. Use caution with MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, and beta-blockers. Diuretics should be used cautiously with beta-agonists to prevent potential cardiac and electrolyte issues.

✔️ Contraindications:

• Primary treatment for status asthmaticus or acute asthma or COPD episodes requiring intensive measures.
• Hypersensitivity to any ingredients in this medication.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation:

• No clinical data on pregnancy, though animal studies show no additional effects at high doses.
• Budesonide is excreted in breast milk; Formoterol’s excretion is unknown. Use during breastfeeding only if the benefits outweigh the risks.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings:

• Monitor for growth suppression in children on prolonged corticosteroid therapy.
• Caution in patients with diabetes, thyroid issues, hypokalemia, severe cardiovascular conditions, glaucoma, and cataracts.
• Discontinue if paradoxical bronchospasm occurs.

Store at or below 25°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not swallow the inhalation capsules. Use only with the inhalation device. Remove from the blister pack only immediately before use.
