✔️ How does Aristomol GFS Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution work?

Timolol is a beta-blocker. It works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor (fluid in the eye), thereby lowering the increased eye pressure.

✔️ Common Side Effects

• Eye irritation (burning, stinging, itching, tearing, redness)
• Inflammation of the eyelid or cornea
• Blurred vision, dry eyes, corneal erosion
• Drooping upper eyelid, double vision
• Sensitivity to light, eye discharge, eye pain
• Ringing in the ears
• Headache, low blood glucose levels
• Difficulty sleeping, depression, nightmares, memory loss, hallucinations, dizziness
• Taste disturbances, nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, abdominal pain, vomiting

✔️ Rare Side Effects

Stop using Aristomol GFS Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution and contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

• Allergic reactions including swelling that can obstruct the airway
• Hives, itchy rash, localized and generalized rash, hair loss, skin rash
• Slow heart rate, chest pain, palpitations, changes in heartbeat rhythm, shortness of breath, swelling of the feet and legs, heart failure, heart attack
• Low blood pressure, cold hands and feet, limping
• Constriction of airways, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, wheezing, cough
• Fainting, stroke, reduced blood supply to the brain, increased symptoms of myasthenia gravis, dizziness, unusual sensations
• Sexual dysfunction decreases libido
• Signs of systemic lupus erythematosus
• Sudden weight gain

✔️ Managing Side Effects

• Diarrhea: Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. Avoid self-medicating.
• Headache: Stay hydrated, use a cold/hot pack, and avoid bright lights.
• Nausea and Vomiting: Take the medicine with or just after meals. Avoid oily or spicy foods.
• Stomach Pain: Rest and relax, eat slowly, have smaller frequent meals, and use a heating pad on your stomach if needed. Contact your doctor if symptoms persist.

• Avoid exercises such as any position where the head is lower than the body like an inverted yoga pose as it may increase pressure in the eye. Doing selective exercises is advised for glaucoma patients.
• Aristomol GFS Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution should be used with extreme caution in children and if you notice abnormal breathing, wheezing, coughing, or unusual pauses in breathing, stop using  Aristomol GFS Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution and consult a doctor immediately.
• If you have an injury to the eye or an eye infection, inform your doctor.
• You are advised to inform your doctor before any operation that you are using  Aristomol GFS Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution as it may alter the effects of some medicines that are used during anesthesia
• Routine eye tests are recommended at least every 2 years to detect glaucoma as it does not show any symptoms initially.

✔️ Overdosage:

In case of an overdose, contact your doctor or visit a nearby hospital immediately. Symptoms may include headache, light-headedness, difficulty breathing, chest pain, and a slowed heart rate.

✔️ Pharmacology

Timolol, the active ingredient, is a non-selective β-adrenergic receptor blocker. It reduces intraocular pressure by decreasing the formation of aqueous humor in the eye.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Aristomol GFS Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution

Gel-forming eye drop: 0.25% or 0.5% Gel-forming eye drops: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) once daily.

Use Aristomol GFS Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution as advised by your physician. It is for external use only. Your soft contact lenses must be removed before using this medicine and not put back into your eyes for at least 15 minutes. Tilt your head back and pull down your lower eyelid. Make sure you wash your hands and do not touch any surface while using it. Keep the eyes closed for as long as possible and apply pressure to the corner of the eye. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition.

Drug-Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor if you are taking:

• Diabetes medications (e.g., metformin, glimepiride)
• Calcium antagonists (e.g., nifedipine, verapamil, diltiazem), catecholamine-depleting agents (e.g., reserpine), or clonidine for high blood pressure
• Digoxin for heart failure or abnormal heartbeat
• Pressor amines (e.g., adrenaline) for allergic reactions
• Quinidine for heart conditions or malaria
• Other beta-blockers taken orally or as eye drops
• Antidepressants (e.g., fluoxetine, paroxetine)

Aristomol GFS Ophthalmic Gel Forming Solution is not recommended for patients with respiratory issues like asthma or severe heart problems. Inform your doctor if you have low blood pressure, blood circulation issues, thyroid problems, diabetes, or if you wear contact lenses. It is generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. There is limited data on its use in children, so consult your doctor before using it in pediatric cases.
